Sten K Johnson Foundation scholarship

You get a project grant of 15,000 to 300,000 SEK (about 1,300 to 26,000 EUR), paid as a one-off sum for your project. The Swedish foundation, based in Malmö, funds work in seven areas: culture, medicine, technology, literature, education, music and entrepreneurship. It prefers to support projects still in their early phase. In 2026 it awarded 51 grants worth roughly 8 million SEK in total.

Who can apply

• Who you are: Individuals, organisations and companies can apply. You do not have to be a student.
• Where you live or work: You live and/or work in Skåne, the southernmost region of Sweden.
• Your project's link to Skåne: Your project has a clear connection to Skåne.
• Field: Your project fits one of the seven areas: culture, medicine, technology, literature, education, music or entrepreneurship.
• What the project must show: It is concrete, with a clear goal, timeline and budget. It is innovative, useful to society and connects different disciplines.
• Impact of the money: The grant makes a decisive difference to your project's total cost, rather than being a small top-up.

How to apply

You apply through the online form on the foundation's website. The 2026 window ran from 15 January to 12 February. The 2027 dates are not yet announced. After the deadline, specialists from each area assess the applications together with the board. Successful applicants hear back by email in June.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is limited by region: you and your project must be tied to Skåne, which keeps the applicant pool local rather than nationwide. With 51 grants shared across seven fields each year, the odds are reasonable for a well-defined, genuinely innovative project. Your strongest point is showing that the money is decisive for getting the project off the ground and that it clearly benefits society.
