About this scholarship

Coase Scholarship

If you enrol on a two-year business degree programme at the University of Buckingham in England, you will receive a discount of about EUR 12,800 (£11,000) on your tuition fees. This is a reduction in fees, not a cash payment to you. The funds come from a donation by Ronald Coase, an economist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1991 and was a long-standing friend of the university. Up to 14 of these scholarships are awarded each year. You can use it for one of two degree programmes, both of which last two years and start in January or September: BSc (Econ) (Hons) in Business Administration or BSc (Econ) (Hons) in Economics (Single Subject).

Who can apply

  • Degree: You will be starting one of the two two-year degree programmes in Economics mentioned above at the University of Buckingham.
  • Nationality: You are a British national.
  • Grades: You have, or are expected to obtain, three A-level qualifications, at least one of which must have been graded B or above.
  • Background: Women, members of ethnic minorities and people from low-income families are particularly encouraged to apply, although this is not a requirement.

How to apply

First, apply for one of the two business degree programmes and wait for your offer of a place. You will be given an application ID. You should then use this ID to complete the scholarship application form. The selection process is very competitive. The admissions team will review your form and notify you of the result by email.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is quite restrictive: you must be a British citizen and be enrolled on a specific two-year degree programme in economics at the University of Buckingham, meaning that far fewer people are eligible to apply than is the case with open scholarships. As up to 14 scholarships are awarded each year and the minimum requirement is a B average, a suitable applicant stands a good chance. Apply as soon as you have received your offer of admission, as the application deadlines close once the places have been filled.
