About this scholarship
Queen Mary and Westfield Alumni Student Bursary
You will receive about 1,150 EUR per year (£1,000) for three years, totalling approximately 3,450 EUR (£3,000). The amount will be paid out as an annual cash grant during your bachelor’s degree. This is not a loan, so you will never have to repay the money. The money comes from donations made by former students of Queen Mary University of London. Only two of these scholarships are awarded each year.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are starting your first year of a Bachelor’s degree at Queen Mary University of London.
- Subject: You are studying one of the university’s degree programmes in the natural sciences, engineering, the humanities or the social sciences.
- Where you live: You have lived in Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney or the City of London for at least three years.
- Your school: You attended secondary school in one of these four regions.
- Money you need: Your household income is low. The allowance is means-tested, which means that your family’s income will be assessed.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is very restrictive. You must be a first-year student at a specific university, live in one of four small London neighbourhoods and have attended school there, as well as demonstrate a low household income. This leaves only a small group of eligible applicants, yet only two scholarships are awarded each year. If you clearly meet all these criteria and can demonstrate financial need, your chances are good.
