About this scholarship
What the REACT Foundation Bursary gives you
You will receive a one-off cash prize of approximately EUR 3,400 (GBP 3,000), which is intended to help you get started on a degree in engineering or the natural sciences at university. If you plan to study mechanical engineering, you can also receive an additional 1,000 GBP, sponsored by the IMechE West Cumbria Branch. To be eligible for this, please tick the ‘Yes’ box on the form. Your school or college will also receive a trophy if you win. The money comes from the REACT Foundation, a charity in West Cumbria that encourages young people from the region to study engineering.

How to apply
Please complete the online application form and attach a personal statement of no more than 500 words. Explain why this award is important to you and what you hope to achieve with it. The deadline for applications is 30 June. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the Foundation’s annual awards ceremony in September, at which the members of the Board of Trustees will select the winners.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is very narrowly defined: you must live in West Cumbria and be aiming to study engineering or natural sciences, which means that very few applicants apply for it. At least one grant is awarded each year; however, the board members may decide not to award it if no application meets the requirements. If you clearly meet the criteria and write a compelling personal statement, your chances are good.
