Anglo-Danish Society Scholarship for British Graduates

You will receive a one-off grant of approximately 2,900 EUR (£2,500) to fund a year of study or research in Denmark. The grant will be paid in two instalments from the start of the academic year. It is intended to supplement your other sources of funding and does not cover the full costs. The funding is provided by the Anglo-Danish Society, which promotes academic exchange between the UK and Denmark.

Who can apply

• Your background: You are a British university graduate with a first degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) from a British university.
• Where you study: You are about to start a postgraduate course or research position at a university in Denmark, or have already been offered a confirmed place on such a programme. This may be a Master’s degree, an MPhil, a PhD or a similar course of study.
• Timing: You began your degree programme in the specified academic year, or you will definitely be starting it this year. If your degree programme lasts for less than a full year, you must explain how it fits into a broader academic objective.
• Field of study: Any subject. To date, prizes have been awarded in the fields of music, architecture, engineering, medicine, fine art, international relations and social anthropology.
• Preference: Your chances will be better if your project makes use of specific study opportunities between the UK and Denmark, contributes to cultural exchange between the two countries, or relates to current issues there. It is also helpful to explain why the university you have chosen is a good fit for your field of study.

How to apply

Apply online by 1 March 2026 using the Anglo-Danish Society’s application form for the academic year 2026/27. You must submit three documents: the form, a budget for your study visit and two signed letters of reference in English. Applications will be assessed on the clarity with which you set out the purpose of your project in easy-to-understand English and explain why it deserves funding.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are quite narrow: you must be a British university graduate going to Denmark, which means the pool of applicants is significantly smaller than for open scholarships. If you meet these requirements and write a clear, focused personal statement, your chances are good. Projects that establish a genuine link between the UK and Denmark stand out in particular.
