Childcare Grant

You will receive support towards your childcare costs: up to £199.62 per week (about 230 EUR) for one child or up to £342.24 per week (about 395 EUR) for two or more children. The grant covers up to 85% of your actual expenditure, so the exact amount depends on your actual costs. You do not need to repay this amount. The amount you receive depends on your household income. The grant applies for the entire academic year, provided you are studying full-time at Bishop Grosseteste University (now Lincoln Bishop University).

Who can apply

• Enrolment: You are a full-time student at university.
• Children: You have dependent children who are looked after in an officially registered or authorised childcare facility, such as by a childminder, at a nursery or in an after-school care centre.
• Financial need: Your income is taken into account, including the income of your husband, wife or partner.
• Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities, provided you are eligible for UK student finance.

How to apply

You should submit your application via ‘Student Finance England’ at gov.uk/student-finance – the government body responsible for student finance in the United Kingdom – rather than via the university. They will assess your childcare costs and your income.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a means-tested grant, but a needs-based allowance. If you are studying full-time, have children in registered childcare and your income is low enough, you will receive this allowance. There is neither a fixed budget that could be exhausted nor a selection panel – the key factor is therefore that you meet the eligibility criteria. Gather evidence of your childcare costs and your income to simplify the assessment process.
