SN Systems Ltd. (Sony Computer Entertainment Group) prize

The new PlayStation Vita (Wi-Fi model) is awarded for the best project of the year in the field of software development tools at the School of Computer Science, University of Bristol. The prize is awarded annually to a student and thus recognises a single outstanding project. It is sponsored by SN Systems Ltd., a Bristol-based company that is part of the Sony Computer Entertainment Group and produces development tools for games consoles. There is no prize money.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at the University of Bristol.
• Course: You are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science.
• Year of study: You are in your third or fourth year of study.
• Your project: You have developed a software development tool. It must fulfil at least one of the following three functions: improve software development, increase productivity or improve software quality.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How realistic are your chances?

Only third- or fourth-year computer science students at the University of Bristol are eligible to take part, and only one prize is awarded each year for the best project. The field of entrants is small, but you’ll be competing against your fellow students. If your tool significantly improves software quality, productivity or the developer experience, you’ve got a real chance. A mature, well-thought-out tool is the key to success.
