Emergency Loan from Warwick's Hardship Funds

You can borrow an interest-free emergency loan of up to £250 (about 290 EUR) from the University of Warwick. This is intended to help with short-term financial difficulties relating to essential living costs such as food or rent. This is a loan, not a grant: you must repay it, and it will remain as a debt on your Warwick account until you have done so. No interest is charged, so you will repay exactly the amount you borrowed. Once you have received the money, you will be sent an email with your repayment date.

Who can apply

• University: You are a duly enrolled student at the University of Warwick.
• Nationality: Open to students from Germany, the EU and around the world.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Enrolment status: You are still enrolled (you have not been permanently deregistered) and are not undertaking a work-study programme.
• No debt outstanding: You have no outstanding emergency loans from the past, and you have not taken out any 3 emergency loans in the last 12 months.
• Overdraft first: You have already used up your authorised overdraft facility before submitting your application.

How to apply

Apply for the loan by email or telephone to the ‘Student Funding Support’ department. Please provide your full name, your Warwick student ID, the reason for applying for the loan and your current account balance, and attach a screenshot of this balance so that your eligibility can be verified. There is no deadline; submit your application as soon as the need arises. Applications are processed on working days only.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a means-tested grant, but a safety net for enrolled Warwick students who find themselves in a genuine, short-term financial emergency. If you meet the simple eligibility criteria and can provide proof of your bank balance, you will usually receive the grant. The main restrictions are of a practical nature: you must not have any outstanding loans from previous years and you may not claim more than 3 per year. Please bear in mind that this is a loan that you must repay, not a gift of money.
