About this scholarship
Janice Ann McNaughton Bursary
In your first year, you will receive a one-off payment of about 3,450 EUR (3,000 GBP). You will never have to repay this amount. It is awarded each year to two new students on the Midwifery degree programme in Hatfield, England. The midwifery programme prepares you to care for mothers and babies during pregnancy, at birth and in the weeks that follow. This grant supports students who face additional barriers to accessing university.
Who can apply
- Course: You are starting the full-time degree programme ‘BSc (Hons) Midwifery (pre-registration)’.
- First-year student: The money is intended solely for your first year of study.
- Main target group: You are 18 to 24 and grew up in care or have spent time in the care sector.
- Second target group: If fewer than two people from this group apply in a given year, the scholarship may be awarded to students under 25 who are the first in their family to undertake a degree course.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
Please complete a short application form. You will find the link to this on the pages about the courses and funding.
How realistic are your chances?
Each year, only two scholarships are awarded, and these are reserved for a specific group: first-year midwifery students who grew up in care homes or – if this is not the case – are the first in their family to study at a university. Due to this narrow focus, the pool of eligible applicants remains small. If you clearly meet these criteria and apply early, your chances are really good.
