What the William Pritchard Scholarship gives you

During the first year of your Bachelor’s degree, you will receive a one-off payment of 1,750 EUR (£1,500), usually in November following the start of your studies. Bangor University in North Wales awards this grant as part of its ‘Trust Fund Scholarship Awards’ based on your results in the university’s entrance examination. The grant is awarded in memory of William Pritchard. It is not offered every year; therefore, please enquire whether funds are available for the start of your degree programme.

Who can apply

• Level: You are starting your first bachelor’s degree at Bangor University.
• University choice: You must list Bangor as your first-choice or safety choice via UCAS and then enrol. The grant will only be paid out if you actually commence your studies, and you cannot carry it over to a later year.
• Where you are from: You were born in, or live in, one of the counties of North Wales: Anglesey, Conwy or Gwynedd.
• Residence: You are resident in the United Kingdom or are treated as resident in the United Kingdom for the purposes of tuition fees.
• Prior study: You have completed your Abitur (level 3).
• Field of study: Most subjects are eligible. You will sit the entrance examination in a subject of your choice, such as biology, economics, computer science, law, mathematics, English, history, psychology or Welsh.

How to apply

Please complete the online application form for the entry-level scholarship. For students starting their studies on 2026, the application deadline is 30 January 2026. You will then sit an exam in a subject of your choice on 11 February 2026 at your own school or university and provide the contact details of the examiner there. You will receive the results by email in March.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very strictly defined. You must have been born in Anglesey, Conwy or Gwynedd, or live there, and be starting a degree in Bangor – so only a small number of people are eligible. If you clearly meet these criteria and perform well in the entrance examination, your chances are quite good. As the scholarship is not awarded every year, you should check whether it is available for your degree programme and apply as soon as the application period opens in October.
