About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive up to about 3,500 EUR per year (up to £3,000) as a grant towards the costs of your Bachelor’s degree at the University of Greenwich. The amount of the grant is means-tested and therefore depends on your household income. You will normally receive this grant for one academic year. It can be extended for up to four years, provided you continue your studies successfully. The funding comes from Greenwich Hospital, a charity founded in 1694 to support Royal Navy seamen, which also decides who receives the grant.
Who can apply
- Level: You are studying for a bachelor’s degree at the University of Greenwich.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Service link: You have served in the Royal Navy or the Royal Marines, or one of your parents is serving or has served there.
- Financial need: Your household income is less than £40,000 per year.
- Timing: Applications are usually submitted during the first year of study.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at the University of Greenwich.
How to apply
Applications must be made via the University of Greenwich’s online scholarship form. You must provide evidence of military service (either your own or that of your parents). Your household income will be assessed by Student Finance England. Late applications will not be considered.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is highly selective. You must be studying at a specific university, have a connection to the Royal Navy or the Royal Marines, and demonstrate a household income of less than £40,000.. This keeps the pool of eligible applicants small. If you clearly meet all three conditions and can provide proof of this, your chances are good. It is crucial that you apply early in your first year of study and complete your means test in good time.
