About this scholarship
What the David Pearce Scholarship gives you
You will receive approximately EUR 18,500 (£15,863) for living costs as well as a full waiver of your tuition fees for one year. The living expenses allowance is paid in three instalments, at the start of each semester. The Department of Economics at UCL (University College London) awarded these scholarships to PhD students. Up to three of these scholarships were awarded each year.
Who could apply
- Degree: You are starting or continuing an MRes, MPhil or PhD programme in Economics at UCL. An MRes is a one-year research master’s degree; the MPhil and PhD are research degrees.
- Field of study: Economics only at the Institute of Economics at UCL.
- Study mode: Full-time or part-time – both count.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality were eligible to apply. Applicants from the UK, the EU and other countries were equally eligible to apply, and the fee waiver applied regardless of which fee band you were in.
- Grades: You have an outstanding academic record and significant research potential. You were selected on the basis of your academic achievements.
- No other awards: This scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarships or fee-based grants, regardless of their amount.
How to apply
There was no separate application process. All applicants for the MRes programme were automatically considered. The programme director and the head of department assessed the candidates and made a recommendation as to who should be offered a place.
How realistic are your chances?
The pool of applicants was small, as only those studying economics within a specific department were eligible to apply; however, the standards were high, as a maximum of three scholarships were awarded each year. Please note that this scholarship is no longer listed on UCL’s current funding page, so it may no longer be available. Instead, the department now lists other scholarships in the field of economics.
