University of Westminster - Westminster Undergraduate Scholarships

What you get

The University of Westminster in London offers several scholarships for new undergraduate students. The most common is the International Undergraduate Excellence Award, which gives you a discount of 2,500 GBP (about 2,870 EUR) on your tuition fees in your first year. The money goes directly to the university, so it reduces your debt rather than ending up in your bank account. If you are a UK-based (home) student from a low-income household, the Great Start Scholarship pays 2,000 GBP (approximately 2,300 EUR) per year for up to three years, or four years if you are taking a foundation year. The Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship pays 5,000 GBP (approximately 5,750 EUR) per year for up to three years. You can only receive one Westminster scholarship at a time.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a new student starting a full-time Bachelor’s degree programme. Current students at Westminster University are not eligible to apply.
• Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
• Nationality: Students of all nationalities are welcome. The ‘Excellence Award’ is open to international students (paying international tuition fees). The ‘Great Start’ and ‘Vice-Chancellor’s Award’ are open to students resident in the United Kingdom (paying domestic tuition fees).
• Self-funded (international award): For the Excellence Award, you must fund your studies yourself and not through an external funding body or another scholarship. Student loans such as US Federal Aid or state student loan schemes are permitted.
• Grades (international award): Your results are well above the minimum entry requirements, and you have demonstrated a genuine interest in your field of study.
• Financial need (Home awards): According to the Student Loans Company, your household income is 25,000 GBP or less. You have not yet obtained a higher education qualification.
• Background (Vice-Chancellor's award): This offer is aimed at pupils from Germany who are of Black or mixed ethnic background and who also meet the income threshold.

You should apply via Westminster University’s online scholarship portal as soon as you have received your offer of admission. The application deadline is 04.04. Please apply as soon as you have received your offer of admission.

How realistic are your chances?

These scholarships are tied to a specific university and are each subject to specific selection criteria: good academic results for the international scholarship, a low household income for the ‘Home’ scholarships, and a specific background for the Vice-Chancellor’s scholarship. If you have already been offered a place at Westminster and clearly meet the criteria for a particular type of scholarship, there will be few applicants competing for that specific scholarship, so a well-tailored application stands a good chance of success.
