Dordogne Erasmus mobility scholarship

For a study period abroad lasting at least 9 months, you will receive a one-off payment of up to 1,220 EUR. Shorter periods will be paid on a pro rata basis, but for a minimum of 3 months. The exact amount depends on your family’s taxable income and the number of dependent children. If your family’s reference income is below 9,500 EUR, you will receive the full amount of 1,220 EUR for any stay lasting more than 3 months. For higher incomes, the amount is lower. For example, you will receive 460 EUR if you have one dependent child and an income between 28,500 and 38,000 EUR. The money comes from the Dordogne Departmental Council (Conseil départemental de la Dordogne) and is added to any other benefits you receive. It is paid in two instalments: 50% at the start of your stay and 50% at the end.

Who can apply

• Where you're from: Your tax residence – or that of your family, if you are still a dependent – is in the Dordogne department.
• Where you study: You are enrolled at a university or a Grande École in France.
• Type of exchange: You are going abroad as part of an official Erasmus exchange programme between universities within the European Union. Work placements in companies and other programmes are not an option.
• Length of stay: Your stay abroad will last longer than 3 months.
• Financial need: The lower your family’s taxable income, the more you will receive.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they meet the requirements regarding residence and registration in the Dordogne.

How to apply

You should submit your application to the Dordogne Departmental Council using the form provided there. There are two admission rounds: apply for the first round by 1 October or for the second round by 31 March. A joint committee comprising representatives from the university and the department assesses the applications on the basis of social and academic criteria before reaching a decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very strictly defined. You must be tax-resident in the Dordogne, be studying in France and be going abroad as part of an Erasmus university exchange programme, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these conditions and can provide proof of your family’s income, your chances are good. Your chances are best if your income is lower, as in this case the full amount will be awarded. Apply early in the round that corresponds to your exchange dates.
