What the Capelle Scholarships give you

In addition to your existing student finance, you will receive a grant to cover your living costs whilst studying engineering at INSA Lyon in France. The amount depends on your individual circumstances. If you are already receiving the state-funded CROUS grant, your allowance will amount to at least 25% of your annual CROUS grant and will be paid over 10 months. Third-year students receive a fixed ‘Bourse Capelle 3’ grant: 500 EUR for CROUS level 5, 850 EUR for level 6 and 1,200 EUR for level 7. If you are an international student from a non-EU country who is not eligible for a state grant, you are entitled to a partial reduction in your tuition fees and to a grant of up to 2,500 EUR per year. The funding is provided by the INSA Lyon Foundation. This support applies to the first three years of the engineering degree. It may be extended provided your financial situation does not change.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying engineering at INSA Lyon.
• Year of study: You are in your 1, 2 or 3 year of your engineering degree. Training undertaken as part of a dual study programme is not taken into account.
• Where you live: You live on the INSA campus.
• Financial need: If you are from France or the EU, you must already be receiving a CROUS state grant at level 5, 6 or 7 (the levels for those with the greatest financial need). If you are an international student from a non-EU country, you must not be eligible for a CROUS grant and must not be receiving any other state or private grant.
• No stacking: A Capelle scholarship cannot be combined with any other funding from the university or the INSA Lyon Foundation.

How to apply

Please request the application form from the Scholarships Office. Complete it online and upload the required documents. A student social committee will review the applications and make a decision.

How realistic are your chances?

The allocation of this grant is strictly limited. You must be studying engineering at INSA Lyon, be living on campus and demonstrate a clear financial need. You can demonstrate this need by providing your CROUS tier or, in the case of students from non-EU countries, by showing that you do not receive any other grants. This ensures that the group of eligible applicants remains small and clearly defined. If you meet these conditions and can provide evidence of your circumstances, your chances are good.
