About this scholarship

Littoral Côte d'Opale research grants

You will receive a research grant of 1,680 EUR to carry out research for your PhD for up to 36 months at a laboratory at the University of Littoral Opal Coast (ULCO) in Dunkirk, northern France. The funding comes from the European Doctoral College (CDE) of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, a consortium of six doctoral schools in the region. The aim is to attract students from other European countries to these laboratories and to forge scientific links across Europe.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You have a Master’s degree.
  • Where you got it: You obtained your Master’s degree in Europe, but outside France.
  • Nationality: Students from all over Europe are eligible to apply.
  • Field of study: Any field of study is suitable. The six doctoral schools cover the fields of engineering, physics and chemistry, the environment, health and biology, economics and social sciences, law and political science, and the humanities.
  • Your plan: You would like to carry out your PhD research in one of the ULCO laboratories in northern France.

How to apply

Please apply via the doctoral school that corresponds to your field of study. Each school sets its own application procedure. The application deadline is 24 May.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very specific: you must hold a Master’s degree from a European institution (outside France) and have a concrete plan to work in a specific laboratory in northern France, meaning that very few people meet the criteria. If you meet these conditions and have already found a laboratory and a supervisor, your prospects are good. Apply early and contact the doctoral school of your choice directly, as places depend on the respective recruitment policies of the individual laboratories.
