About this scholarship
St Peter's Tiverton Choral Scholarship
You will receive about 830 EUR per year (£720) as well as an allowance. In return, you will sing in the choir or play the organ at St Peter’s Parish Church in Tiverton, Devon. Four scholarships are awarded each year. The Tiverton parish awards the scholarships in partnership with the University of Exeter; they are funded by the Viscount Amory Charitable Trust. St Peter’s is the largest church in the town, with a choir of around 15 singers, regular choral Evensong services and a historic organ dating from 1696, meaning there are places available for both singers and organists. The time commitment can be easily reconciled with your studies: the services are organised flexibly, and transport from Exeter to Tiverton (about 20 minutes away) can be arranged.
Who can apply
- University: You are studying at the University of Exeter, whether on an undergraduate or postgraduate programme.
- Skills: You are a choir singer or organist. A specific voice type is not required.
- Field of study: Any topic is fine.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
Please contact Tiverton Parish directly by email. An audition is usually part of the process.
How realistic are your chances?
The eligibility criteria for this award are quite strict: you must be a student at the University of Exeter and be able to sing or play the organ, and as there are only four scholarships available, very few people apply for them. If you have a solid grounding in choral singing or organ playing and are willing to commit to church services in Tiverton, your chances are good. Contact the parish early on and arrange an audition.
