Ali Kuşçu Science and Technology Scholarship

You will receive a monthly scholarship (a contribution towards living costs) of up to about 420 EUR to study a subject in the natural sciences, engineering or technology at a Turkish university. The exact amount depends on your level of study. In addition to the financial support, the scholarship covers your full tuition fees, a place in student accommodation for the first year (followed by a housing allowance from the second year onwards), state health insurance, a return flight to Turkey, and a free one-year Turkish language course. You will also be allocated a place at a university and in a specific department. The scholarship is funded by the Turkish government through the Presidency for Turks Abroad (YTB) and forms part of the STEM stream of the wider ‘Türkiye Scholarship Programme’.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You would like to start a Master’s or PhD programme.
• Field of study: Natural sciences, engineering or technology (STEM subjects).
• Previous studies: You have already obtained the degree required to progress to your intended next level of study, or will obtain it by August of the year of application (a Bachelor’s degree for a Master’s programme, or a Master’s degree for a PhD).
• Grades: Your average mark is at least 75%.
• Age: As part of 30 for a Master’s degree programme, and as part of 35 for a PhD.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. You are not eligible to apply if you are a Turkish citizen or have lost your Turkish citizenship.
• Not already enrolled: You are not yet studying at the same level at a Turkish university.
• Language: You do not need to know any Turkish to apply; a free language course is provided.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the free scholarship application system for Turkey between 10 January and 20 February each year. You may submit your application documents in one of several languages, including English. If you are shortlisted, you will receive an email inviting you to an interview, which will take place either in person or online.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a major government programme open to students worldwide; as such, it attracts many applicants and is highly competitive. Selection is based on academic merit, so good grades and test results are the most important factors. The exclusive focus on STEM subjects does narrow the field compared with programmes that are completely open to all. If you clearly meet the requirements regarding age, grades and subjects, and apply well in advance of the February deadline, you stand a good chance.
