About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive 786 EUR per month to study for a semester or a full academic year at a partner university abroad. If you undertake an internship instead of a study programme, the grant increases to 936 EUR per month. In addition to the monthly allowance, you will receive a one-off travel allowance, which depends on the distance and ranges from 28 EUR for a short journey to 1,735 EUR for the longest journeys. There are no tuition fees at the host university, and your semester abroad will count in full towards your degree. The funding comes from the EU’s Erasmus+ programme and is administered by the University of the Azores in Portugal on behalf of its own students.
Who can apply
- Your university: You are enrolled at the University of the Azores. This scholarship is intended exclusively for students at this university who are going abroad.
- Level: You are a student on a short-cycle degree programme (CTeSP), or on a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Where you go: You will be going to a European Erasmus country or, depending on your degree programme, to a partner university in Cape Verde or Brazil. Your university must already have an exchange agreement in place with the host university. For voluntary work placements, you will need to organise this yourself.
- Language: You have at least a B1 level in Portuguese or English, so you can follow lessons and cope with everyday situations.
- Nationality: Any nationality is acceptable, provided you are studying at the University of the Azores.
How to apply
First, contact your faculty’s mobility coordinator (the person responsible for organising student exchange programmes) and select two partner universities. You should then apply online via the Inforestudante portal. The first application round for the 2026/2027 academic year closes on 28 February. Late applications will be automatically rejected.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is open exclusively to students who are already enrolled at the University of the Azores. This means you are applying within a single university and not competing against applicants from across the country. If you meet the language requirements and choose a partner institution with which your faculty already has an agreement, your chances are good. Apply early, as the number of places available depends on the exchange agreements in place for your degree programme.
