About this scholarship

FISITA Travel Bursary

You will receive up to 2,000 EUR as a one-off payment to cover travel and living expenses for an assignment abroad in the automotive and mobility sector. The assignment abroad may take the form of an internship, an exchange programme or a work placement with an automotive company or a research centre outside your home country. You will receive this amount as a one-off payment per placement, not on a monthly basis. It is provided by the FISITA Foundation, a UK-based charity run by FISITA, the international federation of automotive engineering societies. The organisation supports less privileged engineering students in gaining experience abroad.

Who can apply

  • Degree or level: You study engineering at bachelor's level at a recognised university or college.
  • Field of study: Your engineering degree is designed to prepare you for a career in the automotive and mobility sector.
  • Placement arranged: You already have a confirmed placement at a car company or research organisation abroad.
  • Membership: You are a member of a FISITA member society, for example the VDI in Germany, SAE in the USA or JSAE in Japan.
  • Registration: You are registered with the FISITA International Engineering Community, where membership is free of charge.
  • Nationality and where you study: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, and you can study in any country of your choice.
  • Timing: You apply before your work placement begins.

How realistic are your chances?

The award is narrowly cut. It is limited to engineering students who already have a placement at a car employer abroad and who belong to a FISITA society. That keeps the applicant pool small. If you clearly meet those conditions and can show a detailed budget for your trip, a well-matched application has solid prospects. Note that FISITA has paused this bursary. The Education Committee plans to reintroduce it in 2026/27, so there is currently no open application round.
