About this scholarship

What you get

You get a discount on your tuition fees at Northumbria University in Newcastle, England, if you come from Nigeria. How much depends on your level of study. For a full undergraduate degree you get about 7,000 EUR (£6,000) off in your first year, plus about 2,300 EUR (£2,000) in each later year. That adds up to about 11,500 EUR (£10,000) over a maximum of three years. For a taught master's degree you get a one-off discount of about 7,000 EUR (£6,000). This is a fee discount, not a cash payment, so it lowers what you owe the university rather than paying you money.

Who can apply

  • Where you're from: You live in Nigeria and count as an international student with "Overseas" fee status.
  • Where you study: You enrol full time at Northumbria's Newcastle Upon Tyne campus.
  • Level: You start an undergraduate degree in September 2025, or a taught master's in September 2025 or January 2026. Coming in after a Foundation Year still counts for the undergraduate award.
  • Who pays: You pay your own fees. If you have a sponsor or other funding from an institution, you cannot get this.
  • New students only: You are a first-time Northumbria student. Northumbria graduates get the Alumni Discount instead, whichever is worth more.
  • Course: You meet your course's entry requirements. A few courses are excluded, including some Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Bar/LLM and study-abroad master's programmes.

How to apply

There is no separate scholarship application. The discount is added to your tuition fee account automatically once you are accepted and enrolled on an eligible course. If you defer your place, the offer is withdrawn.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive award. Everyone who fits the rules gets it, so there is no selection panel or ranking. If you are a self-funded Nigerian student who enrols full time on an eligible course at the Newcastle campus, the discount applies by default. The main things that could rule you out are having a sponsor or picking one of the excluded courses.
