UCM/MSP tuition fee waiver

You get a waiver of about 1,771 EUR per year if you cannot pay the higher tuition fee at University College Maastricht (UCM) and the Maastricht Science Programme (MSP). These two Liberal Arts and Sciences bachelor's programmes cost more than the standard Dutch rate because they teach in small, intensive groups. For 2026/27 you pay 4,465 EUR instead of the normal 2,694 EUR. The waiver covers exactly that difference. It rises to about 1,824 EUR in 2027/28. You keep it for the length of your bachelor's, up to 4 years. Maastricht University pays for it, so the extra fee does not stop students from enrolling.

Who can apply

• Programme: You are applying to the Liberal Arts and Sciences bachelor's at UCM or MSP and meet its admission criteria.
• Nationality: You hold an EU or EEA passport.
• Financial need: You have no personal funds to pay the extra fee.
• Family support: Your parents or guardians cannot support you financially.
• Other help: You cannot get maintenance grants, other scholarships or subsidised student loans.

How to apply

First register for the UCM or MSP bachelor's through Studielink. At the same time, email your waiver request to the UCM or MSP admissions office. Include a letter explaining why you cannot pay and official proof of your financial situation, such as a recent tax return. Without proof, your request is not assessed. There is no fixed deadline, but apply early. You get the decision by 1 June at the latest.

How realistic are your chances?

This waiver is cut narrowly. You must be admitted to one specific type of programme, hold an EU/EEA passport, and document that you cannot cover the fee difference. That keeps the eligible group small. If you fit those conditions and can back up your situation with solid paperwork, your prospects are good, especially if you apply early.
