Stockholm Trio Scholarship

You get your full tuition fee covered for your whole master's programme, which runs 1 to 2 years. There is no cash payment on top. You pay your own living costs like rent, food, travel and health insurance. The scholarship comes from the Stockholm Trio, a partnership of three Swedish universities: Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. It applies to two joint master's programmes where you study at all three universities and get a degree from each: Molecular Techniques in Life Science, and Biostatistics and Data Science.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a citizen of a country outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland, so you have to pay tuition fees in Sweden. Students from those regions study free and cannot apply.
• Programme: You are admitted to one of the two joint master's programmes: Molecular Techniques in Life Science, or Biostatistics and Data Science.
• First choice: You listed that programme as your first priority on universityadmissions.se. The scholarship only counts for your top choice.
• Language: You meet the English language requirements of your programme.
• Selection: Places go to the strongest applicants by academic results, plus your motivation to contribute to sustainable development.

How to apply

First apply for the master's programme through universityadmissions.se. Then apply for the scholarship on the KTH website. You need no extra documents, because KTH uses what you already submitted. For the 2026/2027 round, the scholarship application opens on 1 December 2026 and closes on 15 January 2027. Results are announced on 1 April 2027.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a competitive, merit-based award. In 2025, 65 of 803 applicants were nominated, roughly 8 percent. Because it is limited to two specific programmes and to fee-paying non-EU students, the pool is narrower than for open scholarships. Still, strong grades alone will not carry you. Applicants with clear academic excellence and genuine motivation around sustainable development have the best prospects.
