What the Swedish-Norwegian Cooperation Fund offers

You will receive project funding to carry out a joint Swedish-Norwegian project. You will also gain access to the fund’s network and its expertise in cross-border cooperation. The amount of funding is not fixed in advance; it depends on your project and the funds available. The Fund is a Swedish foundation established in 1949 using Swedish war aid for Norway. Its board is appointed by the Swedish and Norwegian governments. The Fund supports joint projects with partners, such as a summer masterclass for young musicians or a leadership training network for young professionals.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are applying as an organisation or project team, not as an individual applying for a grant.
• Swedish-Norwegian focus: Your project highlights a clear link between Sweden and Norway and brings people from both countries together – whether in person or online.
• Age of participants: Your project is aimed at young people under the age of 35. It is an advantage if the project leaders are also under the age of 35.
• Theme: Your project focuses on peace, democracy or human rights and is linked to Swedish and Norwegian culture and society.
• Values: Your project embodies sustainability, tolerance and inclusion.
• Field: Any topic that meets these criteria is suitable – from culture and music to society and history.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome. What matters is a genuine exchange between Sweden and Norway.

How to apply

Once a year, usually in the autumn, the fund issues a call for proposals for projects for the following year. Applications must be submitted via the online form. The deadline for applications was 25 October.

How realistic are your chances?

Funding is very limited. Your project must have a clear Swedish-Norwegian connection, involve participants from 35, and address a topic relating to peace, democracy or human rights; as a result, very few applications meet all three criteria. If your organisation or team does indeed meet these conditions, your prospects are good. It is advantageous to apply as a group with a specific cross-border plan rather than individually, as the fund supports projects rather than individuals.
