What the Chevening Scholarship gives you

You get a fully funded one-year master's degree at any UK university. On top of that you receive a monthly living allowance of about 1,469 EUR for rent and daily costs. The award also pays your full tuition fees, a return economy flight from your home country, your visa fee, arrival and departure allowances and a travel top-up for Chevening events. If you need a TB test, it covers up to 75 GBP (about 85 EUR) for that too. The living allowance is higher in London than elsewhere, and the rates are updated each year. You also join a network of more than 55,000 former scholars (alumni) and attend networking events with senior speakers and partner organisations. Chevening is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and awards about 1,500 scholarships worldwide each year.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a national of one of the 160+ countries or territories whose citizens are eligible for a Chevening scholarship. British nationals and those with dual British nationality are not eligible to apply; exceptions to this rule apply in a few cases to nationals of British Overseas Territories and holders of BN(O) status from Hong Kong.
• Where you live: You are living outside the UK at the time of your application.
• Degree: You hold a bachelor’s degree that is sufficient for entry to a master’s programme in the United Kingdom (roughly equivalent to an ‘Upper Second-Class’ in the United Kingdom or 2:1) and which you completed at least two years before the application deadline.
• Work experience: You have at least two years’ professional experience (approximately 2,800 hours) gained since completing your bachelor’s degree.
• Course choice: You are applying for three different eligible Master’s programmes in the United Kingdom and have received at least one unconditional offer by the application deadline. Distance-learning programmes, part-time programmes, PhD programmes and research Master’s programmes (MRes) are not eligible.
• Return commitment: You undertake to return to your home country for at least two years once the scholarship has ended.
• Field of study: Any degree programme at a recognised British university is suitable.
• Age: No age limit.

How to apply

You apply online free of charge via the Chevening application system. You will answer four questions about your leadership skills, your network, your choice of study programme and your career plans. AI-generated answers are not permitted. The application window runs from the start of August until 6 October at 11:00 UTC. If you are shortlisted, you will take part in a panel interview in English at a British Embassy or High Commission, during which you will provide specific examples of the skills you have outlined.
