Lawrence Burrows Scholarship

At London South Bank University (LSBU), you will receive a one-off payment of 3,500 EUR (£3,000). This is a one-off lump sum, not a monthly or recurring payment. Every year, LSBU awards ten of these scholarships to first-year students. Lawrence Burrows set up the fund to support young people from West Indian (Caribbean) or Asian backgrounds, and it has been helping LSBU students for almost 30 years.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at London South Bank University.
• Degree: You are studying for a full-time bachelor’s degree.
• Study year: You’re in your first year and will be starting in September 2025.
• Background: You are of West Indian (Caribbean) or Asian origin.
• Fee status: You are a student from Germany or the EU and are not an international student liable for tuition fees.
• Age: Until the end of your course, you will be covered by 30.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.

How to apply

You do not need to search for an application portal. At the start of the academic year, LSBU sends information about the scholarship and the application form directly to all students who meet the criteria. Once you have received these documents, you have one month to apply.

How realistic are your chances?

This award has very strict eligibility criteria. You must be a first-year undergraduate student from the UK or the EU studying at LSBU, enrolled on the 30 programme, and of West Indian or Asian origin, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is small. As only 10 scholarships are awarded at a single university each year, this is more of a limited selection process than a nationwide competition. If you clearly meet the criteria and return the form promptly, your chances are good.
