ASEM-DUO Fellowship Programme - ASEM-DUO Fellowships (Thailand)

What you get

You will receive 800 EUR per month for 4 months, up to a total of 3,200 euros, to study for one semester at a university in Thailand. The money is paid as a lump sum, so you can use it towards tuition fees, living costs or travel expenses. The scholarship is awarded by the Thai Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. This is a partner exchange programme: you will go to Thailand, whilst at the same time a Thai student will come to your European university. You will both receive funding.

Who can apply

• Where you study now: You are enrolled at an accredited higher education institution in one of the 30 European ASEM member states. These include all EU countries, as well as Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
• Nationality: You are a national of an EU country (the extended ASEM group also includes Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom).
• Grades: In at least 70% of your modules, you have achieved a grade of B as a Master’s student or a grade of C as a Bachelor’s student under the ECTS grading system.
• Field of study: Applicants from all disciplines are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to the following fields: alternative energy, biotechnology, food science, health sciences, ICT, logistics, engineering, robotics and tourism management.
• Partner universities: Your university and a Thai university have signed a cooperation agreement. This must allow for the transfer of credit points and exemption from tuition fees for exchange students.
• No other scholarship: You are not currently receiving any other scholarship.
• First time only: You have not yet received a DUO Thailand scholarship (a funded exchange place). Furthermore, at the time of your application, you are not yet studying at the host university in Thailand.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via your university, not directly. The Thai partner university nominates you and your Thai exchange partner as a pair and forwards the application to the Ministry. The application deadline for the last active round was on 8 October. The Ministry then selects the successful pairs.

How realistic are your chances?

The requirements are demanding. You need a partner university in Thailand with an existing exchange agreement and a suitable Thai student with whom you can travel, which significantly limits your options. If your university already has such an agreement and a partner student has already been identified, your prospects look good. Organising all of this is the real hurdle. Please also note that this programme has not been run since 2021, as Thailand has not allocated any funding for it. It is currently on hold, but has not been officially discontinued.
