Karlstad University Global Scholarship

You pay only half the tuition fees for a Master’s programme at Karlstad University in Sweden. The discount is deducted directly from your tuition fee invoice. It applies from your first semester and remains in force throughout your studies, provided your academic performance is satisfactory. Every year, between 4 and 8 students receive this support. Living costs are not covered, so when applying for a residence permit, you must prove that you can finance your stay yourself.

Who can apply

• Degree: You have been admitted to an accredited Master’s programme at Karlstad University, which begins in the autumn.
• Field of study: Only certain degree programmes are eligible, for example in the fields of computer science, cyber security, engineering, physics, biology, economics, accountancy, marketing, management and media studies.
• Where you pay fees: You pay tuition fees, which means that you are from a country outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland.
• Time in Sweden: You have lived in Sweden for no more than two years at the time the grant commences, and you do not hold either a permanent residence permit or a work permit there.
• No Swedish master yet: You do not yet hold a Master’s degree from a Swedish higher education institution.
• No other Swedish funding: You have not received a scholarship from the Swedish Government or a Swedish institution.
• Grades: Selection is based solely on academic merit. Good academic results and a clear explanation of why you have chosen your degree programme are taken into account; financial need is not a factor.

How to apply

First, apply for an eligible Master’s programme via the Swedish national admissions website and pay the application fee, unless you are exempt from it. You should then submit the scholarship application form, which is available on the programme’s webpage, between 16 January and 15 February 2026. Late applications will be rejected. The results will be announced by email at the end of April.

How realistic are your chances?

As only 4 to 8 scholarships are awarded each year and the list of eligible degree programmes is limited, this is a highly sought-after scholarship with a high level of competition. As awards are made solely on the basis of academic achievement and the persuasiveness of your statement of purpose, good grades and a concise, focused statement of purpose are crucial. It is advantageous to list a degree programme in Karlstad as your first choice and to submit your application by the deadline.
