About this scholarship
Benefit
This programme was a joint initiative between the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and the China Scholarship Council (CSC). It enabled Chinese nationals to undertake doctoral studies at KTH in Sweden. It comprised three cases: a full-time PhD student who received funding for 48 months, a visiting PhD student for 6 to 12 months, and a visiting researcher. The living allowance (a monthly grant to cover living expenses) was provided by the Chinese side (CSC). KTH provided the place of study and facilities, as well as an additional grant in some cases. No fixed scholarship amount was published.
Eligibility
- Level: You wanted to do a PhD or undertake a research placement at KTH, not complete a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Nationality: He was a Chinese national.
- Where you studied: You studied at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden.
- Field of study: The programme is open to students from all engineering and natural science faculties at KTH. Your place on the course was linked to a specific PhD position advertised by a supervisor.
Programme status
KTH has suspended this programme for all three categories. In November 2024, KTH stated that it would no longer accept new PhD projects under the current CSC agreement, which was due to expire in 2025. KTH cited the lack of transparency in the terms and conditions between the CSC and its scholarship holders as the reason for this. If you are seeking funding from KTH, there is the separate KTH scholarship for international Master’s students, a different programme that remains in place.
