Benefit

You will receive a one-off grant of 20,000 EUR to develop and produce your own animated film project in France or abroad. The project may be a short film, a standalone film, or a pilot for a feature film or a series for cinema or television. The Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation, which supports young talent in the cultural and media sectors, awards only one such grant each year. You may apply individually or as a team of up to three co-authors sharing a project. If your project deals with an environmental or social issue and you do not win the main prize, you will automatically be considered for a separate prize worth 10,000 EUR.

Eligibility

• Age: On 31 December of the year in which you are applying, you must be 30 years old or younger. Every author involved in the project must meet this age requirement.
• Your project: You have an animated film project that you would like to bring to life. Films produced as part of a school course are not eligible.
• Language: You must submit your project in French and, if invited, present it in French as well. You do not need to be a French national.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Experience: Practical or professional experience in the field of animation is an advantage, but not a requirement.
• One project each: Only one project may be submitted per round. A rejected project may be resubmitted if it has been further developed to include new elements.

How to apply

Applications can be submitted free of charge via the Foundation’s online portal by 14 June. The committee will first review the written applications. Shortlisted candidates will then present their project in person to the jury between September and October. If you miss this interview, you will be excluded from the selection process.

How realistic are your chances?

As only one scholarship is awarded each year, it is a prestigious honour for which there is fierce competition. As the scholarship is specifically aimed at animation filmmakers aged 30 or under with a concrete project, the pool of applicants is smaller than for an open scholarship. Ultimately, the award is decided on the basis of a mature, well-developed project and demonstrable experience in the field of animation.
