Alumni Discount at the University of Sheffield

If you already have a degree from the University of Sheffield, you get a cut on your tuition fees when you come back for a postgraduate course. How much depends on what you study next:

• Taught master's courses: 20% off your fees, up to 2,500 GBP (about 2,900 EUR) for September 2027 entry.
• Research courses (PhD/MPhil): 10% off, up to 1,500 GBP (about 1,750 EUR).
• If your earlier Sheffield degree was already a postgraduate one: 10% off, up to 1,500 GBP (about 1,750 EUR).

For a two-year full-time master's, the discount applies in both years if you stay eligible. It only comes off the part of the fees you pay yourself.

Who can apply

• Your history with Sheffield: You have finished a degree at the University of Sheffield, or you took part in a Study Abroad or Erasmus programme there. A course at the University of Sheffield International College does not count.
• What you do next: You are starting a new postgraduate course at the University of Sheffield: taught or research, full or part time, including distance learning.
• Medicine students: You can also apply if you intercalate, which means you pause your medical degree to take a separate postgraduate qualification.
• Who pays your fees: You pay the fees yourself. If you are a home student using a government Master's or Doctoral Loan, that counts as paying yourself, so you qualify.
• Not eligible: The discount does not apply if an outside body sponsors you fully or partly, if you hold an Aziz Foundation Scholarship or NHS Social Work Bursary, or if you take an integrated course such as an MEng or a PGCE.

How to apply

There is no separate application. You claim the discount during your online pre-registration before your course starts, usually in August or September. Tick the 'UG at Sheffield' box and enter your previous registration number on the financial declaration page. If you already finished pre-registration but think you qualify, contact the Student Funding team with your previous registration number.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive scholarship but an automatic fee reduction. If you are a Sheffield graduate paying for a new postgraduate course yourself, and none of the exclusions apply, you get it. What decides your outcome is meeting the conditions and remembering to tick the box during pre-registration.
