About this scholarship

University of Tampere Foundation grants

You will receive a grant of grant of up to about 5,000 EUR from the Tampere University Foundation. This Finnish foundation was established in 1973 to support study and research at Tampere University. The exact amount depends on which earmarked fund you are applying for. The funds are intended to support research, a Master’s thesis or a specific project. PhD students and postdoctoral researchers may also apply for a separate travel grant of 700 EUR per academic year. This covers attendance at a peer-reviewed international conference at which you will give a presentation, present a poster or take part in a panel discussion.

Who can apply

  • University: You are studying or conducting research at the University of Tampere.
  • Level: Depending on the funding scheme, you may be an undergraduate or master’s student, a PhD student or a postdoctoral researcher who completed their PhD less than two years ago.
  • Field of study: This call for proposals is aimed at the social sciences (including health sciences, history, literary studies, speech and language therapy, philosophy, psychology, social research and public health), computer science and information science, linguistics, media and communication studies, the performing arts, education, medicine and the life sciences, as well as administrative, economic and political sciences. Engineering and architecture are not eligible for funding.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Purpose: Depending on the specific purpose of the fund, your scholarship must be used for research, a dissertation, fieldwork or a conference.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online via the Foundation’s funding portal. The call for applications for earmarked grants takes place every year in September; the current period runs from 1 to 22 September 2026 at 23:59. There is no fixed application deadline for travel grants. You can submit your application at any time, and the Executive Board makes decisions on them every few weeks throughout the semester.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is narrowly defined: you must be working at the University of Tampere in one of the eligible departments, and each named fund is focused on a specific topic or group. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate with a clear research or dissertation plan stands a good chance of success. Choose the fund that best suits your work and submit your application before the deadline in September.
