About this scholarship

Per Wallén Memorial Fund

You will receive up to 1,500 SEK per project (about 130 EUR) to help fund your own building or construction project. This is a co-funding scheme: the amount only covers part of your budget, so you will need to finance the rest from other sources. Expenses already incurred cannot be reimbursed. The funding comes from the Swedish Association of Young Scientists (Unga Forskare). The fund is dedicated to Per Wallén, a member who was always embarking on new building projects, and supports curious, creative projects driven by a desire to explore how things work.

Who can apply

  • Membership: You are a member of one of the ‘Unga Forskare’ associations. If you are not yet a member, you can join one of these associations before submitting your application.
  • Your project: You have your own building project that you wish to carry out, and you submit an application before starting work.
  • Level: The fund is aimed mainly at upper-secondary (gymnasium) students.
  • Co-financing: You can explain how the remainder of the budget will be funded, as this grant only covers part of it.
  • Field and nationality: Applicants from all academic disciplines and of any nationality are welcome to apply, provided they are members of Unga Forskare.

How to apply

You can apply to the association by email at any time of the year, provided you do so before your project begins. Please introduce yourself briefly, describe the project, state the amount you are requesting and how it will be used, and attach a full financial plan showing how the remainder will be funded. Please state the name of the member association to which you belong. Processing may take up to six weeks.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a small, highly targeted grant. You must be a member of ‘Unga Forskare’ and be able to present a specific construction project, meaning that only a few applicants are competing for this grant. There is no fixed deadline, and applications are processed in the order in which they are received. If you can present a clear project plan and a credible financial plan, your chances are good. Make sure you apply in good time before you start building.
