Wardlaw Scholarship at St Andrews

You will receive up to £4,400 per year (about 5,060 EUR) for the entire duration of your Bachelor’s degree. The amount is paid in ten monthly instalments from September to May, with a double payment in February. You may also use part or all of the amount towards a room in a student hall of residence. The University of St Andrews awards the scholarship. It is funded by donations from former students and friends of the university to help talented students who would otherwise find it difficult to afford to study there.

Who can apply

• University: You are starting a Bachelor’s degree at the University of St Andrews.
• Where you are from: For fee purposes, your place of residence is in the United Kingdom (Scotland, England, Northern Ireland or Wales).
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Study mode: You are studying full-time or part-time during the day.
• Financial need: Your household income is limited; you can upload proof of this when submitting your application.
• Stage: As a prospective student, you should apply before you start your degree.

How to apply

Applications must be made using the ‘St Andrews Access Award’ form on the university’s application portal. A single application covers all scholarships in the Wardlaw Scholarship series; it is therefore not possible to submit a separate application. Please apply as soon as you have applied for a place at the university, without waiting for a letter of offer. The application deadline is 15 April. Late applications will not be considered.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is aimed exclusively at students from the UK with genuine financial need who wish to study at a specific university; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. If you clearly meet the income and residency requirements and can provide evidence of this, your chances are good. It is advisable to apply well in advance of the April deadline, as only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.
