IMechE Eaton Undergraduate Scholarship

You will receive 2,000 GBP per year (about 2,300 EUR) for up to 4 years, totalling up to 8,000 GBP (approximately 9,200 EUR). The scholarship will be renewed annually, provided you make satisfactory progress. In addition to the financial support, the sponsor, Eaton – a mechanical engineering company – may offer you an internship during your studies. The scholarship is administered by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in conjunction with Eaton. Please note: Payment will be suspended during industry placements.

Who can apply

• Degree: You will be starting a bachelor’s degree programme this autumn. You cannot apply if you have already started your degree programme.
• Field of study: An engineering degree recognised by the IMechE, for example in mechanical engineering.
• Where you study: Any UK university offering a degree programme accredited by the IMechE.
• Residence: You live in the UK.
• Application answer: Your written answer to question 9 on the form will have a significant impact on the selection process, so please take particular care with it.

How to apply

Please submit the completed application form by 30 June. Your referee must submit their reference by 15 July. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by mid-August and will be required to attend an interview. The IMechE selection panel will make the final decision in consultation with a representative from Eaton.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are very specific: you must be resident in the UK and be starting an engineering degree accredited by the IMechE, meaning that very few people meet the requirements. Your answer to the question 9 and your reference carry the most weight, followed by an interview. Therefore, a convincing, well-thought-out application is more important than your grades alone. If you meet the criteria and prepare this answer well, your chances are good.
