About this award / prize

What you get

You will receive a one-off merit-based grant of 1,500 EUR, which will be paid in a single instalment. The University of Bologna awards these grants to high-achieving students from non-EU countries who are already enrolled on one of its degree programmes. In the last round of awards, 30 grants were available. The amount is a gross sum, i.e. taxes and deductions will be taken out before you receive it.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a national of a non-EU country.
  • Your school qualification: You have obtained the qualification that enables you to enrol at a university abroad, but not at an Italian school or university.
  • University: You are enrolled full-time at the University of Bologna in a Bachelor's, Master's or single-cycle Master's programme, both this year and last year.
  • Study progress: By 30 September, you will have earned a minimum number of ECTS credits (the credits you receive for passing exams). The number depends on your degree programme and year of study; for example, 30 credits for a second-year Bachelor’s student or 90 for a third-year student.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Conduct: No disciplinary sanctions have been imposed on you. You are not enrolled on a degree programme leading to a qualification that is equivalent to, or of a lower level than, the one you have already obtained.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the ‘Studenti Online’ platform, where you must also state your total number of credit points. The application deadline is 18 February at 12:00. Applicants will be ranked according to a score comprising the number of credit points earned in excess of the minimum requirement and your weighted average mark.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is cut narrowly. Only non-EU students who studied abroad before Bologna and already have a strong credit and grade record qualify, so the eligible group is small. Selection runs purely on a transparent merit score. If you are well ahead of the minimum credits with high grades, your prospects are good. With a fixed number of prizes each year, your position in the ranking decides it.
