About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive financial support to cover your tuition fees at the Universitat de Barcelona, amounting to up to about 3,900 EUR for one academic year. The university will determine the exact amount based on your personal circumstances. This is an official grant from the university’s Department of Grants and Financial Aid (Unitat de Beques i Ajuts), which you can reapply for each academic year. There are two options: one for students affected by a sudden financial setback (Modalitat A), and one for students who cannot afford the higher fees incurred when taking a module for the second time (Modalitat B).

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled on an official Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at the Universitat de Barcelona in Spain.
  • Financial need: You are unable to pay your tuition fees, either in full or in part, due to financial difficulties.
  • Unforeseen setback (Modalitat A): A sudden event this year has severely affected your family’s financial situation, after the standard application deadlines for scholarships had already passed. You must also have applied for the national ‘Beca General’ scholarship and/or the ‘Equitat’ scholarship for the same year.
  • Repeat subjects (Modalitat B): You cannot pay the supplementary fee for modules you are taking for the second time.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Other aid: You may combine this grant with the ‘Beca General’ and ‘Equitat’ grants, but not with any other public or private funding for the same purpose.

How to apply

You apply online via the UB funding portal, selecting the form appropriate for your option (Option A or B). For the year 2025–2026, the application window ran from 6 October 2025 to 30 April 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is not a broad-based, open selection process, but rather a targeted safety net for students at the University of Barcelona who can demonstrate that they are in genuine financial hardship. If you are enrolled at the Universitat de Barcelona and can clearly demonstrate that you have found yourself in a sudden financial emergency or cannot afford the fee for retaking a module, your chances are good. A well-documented case is crucial, so make sure you gather all your supporting evidence before submitting your application.
