About this scholarship

Taiwan Scholarship Program (France)

For a bachelor’s degree in Taiwan, you will receive monthly living allowance of about 408 EUR (15,000 NTD); for a master’s or doctoral degree, approximately 543 EUR (20,000 NTD). In addition, your tuition fees will be covered up to a maximum of 40,000 NTD (approximately 1,090 EUR) per semester and paid directly to your university. The funding is available for up to 4 years for a Bachelor’s degree, 2 years for a Master’s degree and 4 years for a PhD, with the maximum duration across all levels being 5 years. Depending on the programme offered by your university, you can study in Mandarin Chinese or English. Any renewal of the scholarship depends on your academic performance. The scholarship is awarded by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education, which allocates 5 places annually for students from France.

Two items of expenditure are not covered. You will have to cover the cost of flights and travel to the destination yourself. You should also allow for around 3,000 EUR for the first two months, as the grant is paid out at the end of each month.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You hold French nationality. You may not simultaneously hold Taiwanese, Chinese (mainland), Hong Kong or Macao nationality, or the status of an overseas Chinese.
  • Degree level: You would like to start a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme at a university in Taiwan.
  • Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
  • Qualifications: You hold a school-leaving certificate or a higher school-leaving qualification with excellent grades and have no previous criminal convictions.
  • Not already there: You are not currently studying in Taiwan, unless you are about to complete a degree and move on to the next level. Furthermore, you have never previously studied at this level in Taiwan.
  • No overlap: You are not taking part in a dual degree programme, a joint supervision scheme or an exchange programme, and you are not receiving any other scholarship that overlaps with this one.
  • First time: You have never previously received a Taiwan scholarship, nor has one ever been withdrawn from you.

How to apply

Please send your application by post to the Education Department of the Taipei Representative Office in Paris. The application deadline is 31 March each year. A Franco-Taiwanese selection panel will review the applications and then invite shortlisted candidates to an interview, which will take place either in person or online.

How realistic are your chances?

Each year, there are only 5 places available for French students, so this is a small, selective scholarship. The key criteria are your academic results and a clear, well-reasoned study plan for Taiwan; you must also pass an interview. If you clearly meet the requirements, put together a compelling application and apply well in advance of the March deadline, your chances are certainly good, given the limited pool of applicants, which is restricted exclusively to France.
