Meurthe-et-Moselle departmental higher education grant

You will receive a one-off grant of 700 EUR, 850 EUR or 1,250 EUR, the amount of which depends on your family’s income. This will be paid by the Conseil Départemental de Meurthe-et-Moselle, the local authority for the department of 54 in the Lorraine region. You can combine this allowance with other allowances.

Who can apply

• Qualification: You hold the French ‘Baccalauréat’ or an equivalent qualification that entitles you to enter higher education.
• What you study: You are enrolled on an initial degree programme leading to a recognised qualification. The subject area is irrelevant – creative arts, design and BTS programmes are also eligible.
• Where you study: Your school is not eligible for the state grant; for example, a private school such as the École de Condé in Nancy. This is the decisive selection criterion.
• Family location: Your parents pay their taxes in Meurthe-et-Moselle.
• No national grant: You are not eligible for a national CROUS grant (the state grant for students).
• Financial need: Your family income must fall within the limits set by the authorities.

How to apply

You should submit your application to the department’s secretariat in Nancy. There is no fixed deadline. Applications are accepted throughout the year, subject to the availability of funds. The department’s committee decides on each grant application on a case-by-case basis.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very narrowly targeted. Your family must live in Meurthe-et-Moselle, your school must not be eligible for the state grant, and you must demonstrate financial need, meaning that only a small number of people are competing for it. If you clearly meet these conditions, your chances are good. Funds are limited and applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is advisable to apply early in the year.
