About this grant / loan

What the Mexico FUNED scholarship offers

You will receive a education loan in US dollars to fund a one-year Master’s programme at the University of Nottingham. You will also receive a 25% discount on your tuition fees, as Nottingham is a FUNED partner university. The loan carries a fixed annual interest rate of 6.5%. Upon completion of your Master’s degree, you will have a 6-month repayment-free period, followed by 5 years to repay the loan, ensuring that your repayments benefit the next student. The 25% tuition fee discount can offset all or part of the interest, meaning your effective costs could fall to zero or below. The funding comes from FUNED (Fundación Mexicana para la Educación, la Tecnología y la Ciencia), a Mexican charity that helps outstanding Mexican students to study at leading universities worldwide. This discount cannot be combined with other Nottingham discounts or scholarships.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a Mexican citizen.
  • Degree level: You already hold a bachelor’s degree or are about to graduate, and are applying for a master’s degree programme.
  • University: You have received an official confirmation of admission to a one-year Master’s programme at the University of Nottingham.
  • Grades: Your average score on the Mexican 1-10 scale is at least 8.0.
  • Work experience: You have at least one year’s verifiable professional experience.
  • Field of study: Your degree programme is part of a funded subject area such as business studies, engineering, law, political science or economics.

How to apply

You must register via the FUNED online system and submit your application there. You must already have been admitted to the University of Nottingham. The application deadline is 15 October, subject to the availability of funding. FUNED will review your documents and notify you of the outcome by email.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very restrictive. You must be a Mexican national, have been offered a place on a Master’s programme at Nottingham, and meet specific requirements regarding academic grades and professional experience, meaning that the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you meet these conditions and already have your place confirmed, your chances are good. As this is a revolving loan fund rather than a fixed grant pool, you should apply early in the application round, before the budget runs out.
