Swedish-Danish Cultural Foundation project grant

You will receive a one-off project grant, usually amounting to around 2,000 EUR, to carry out a project that strengthens cultural ties between Sweden and Denmark. Each year, the foundation distributes approximately 500,000 to 600,000 SEK amongst approximately 20 to 35 projects. You must spend the funds between 5 July of the year in which you submit your application and 6 June of the following year. Founded in 1953, the foundation supports, amongst other things, Swedish and Danish art exhibitions, theatre, dance and concerts, author visits, journalists’ trips to report on Danish-Swedish relations, research into the two countries’ shared language and history, and teacher training in both languages and cultures.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You may apply as an individual, an organisation, an association or an institution. Local authorities, regional authorities and other public bodies are not eligible to apply.
• Your project: It is intended to promote understanding and engagement between the people of Sweden and Denmark. The work should mainly take place in Sweden in order to strengthen relations with Denmark.
• Field: Your project should focus on culture and the arts, science, business and society, or on education in the context of the two countries.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Not funded: The grant must not be used for school or university courses that qualify for standard student grants, for school trips, sporting events, tuition fees, performers’ fees, or for equipment, materials and construction costs.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the form on the Foundation’s website in Swedish, Danish or English. There is one call for applications per year, which takes place at the start of the year and closes on 7 April. The next round begins at the start of 2027. The Foundation’s Board decides on all applications, and you will receive a response by the end of June.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a highly targeted funding scheme. Your project must demonstrate a genuine reciprocal link between Sweden and Denmark, and only 20 to 35 projects are funded from the funding pool each year. If your idea is clearly bilateral, innovative and likely to have a lasting impact – particularly where links between the countries are weak – your chances are good. Vague projects without a clear cross-border objective will not be considered.
