ASEM-DUO Fellowship Programme - ASEM-DUO Fellowships (Korea)

Benefit

You will receive 4,000 EUR for one semester (around four months) to study in Korea. Your Korean exchange partner will receive the same amount, 4,000 EUR, to study at your university, meaning that each pair will receive a total grant of 8,000 EUR. You can spend the money on whatever you need: tuition fees, living costs or travel. The programme is funded by the Korean Ministry of Education. It operates on a tandem basis: funding is provided exclusively to pairs of students, consisting of one European and one Korean student, who study at each other’s respective universities.

Eligibility

• Level: You are a Bachelor’s or Master’s student. You are currently enrolled and will remain so until the start of the exchange.
• Nationality: You are a national of one of the 30 European ASEM countries. These include the EU Member States, as well as Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
• Where you study now: At the time of applying, you must be enrolled at a higher education institution in your home country in Europe and must not yet be abroad.
• Partner setup: Your university and a Korean university have signed a cooperation agreement, and each side has selected a student to be sent to the other university. You cannot apply on your own; you need this assigned Korean partner.
• Field of study: All compartments are open.
• Credit minimum: As part of your exchange programme, you must earn at least 20 ECTS credits. Language or sports courses do not count towards this total.
• No double funding: You will not receive any further funding from the government or the university for the same exchange.

How to apply

You cannot apply yourself. Your Korean partner university will submit an online application on behalf of both of you. You must therefore arrange this through the International Relations Office at your own university. The application deadline for the 2026 round is 20 May, and a Korean selection committee will announce the results by June.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. You need an existing partnership between your university and a Korean higher education institution, a suitable Korean student, and a concrete exchange plan, which means that the pool of eligible applicants is small. If these requirements are already met, your chances are good, and new exchange projects that have not yet received funding will be given priority. The difficulty lies in putting the pair together, not in standing out from a large number of applicants.
