About this scholarship
What a Chevening Scholarship gives you
For a one-year Master’s degree at any British university, you will receive a full scholarship, which is funded by the British Government. It includes:
- Your full tuition fees.
- A monthly living allowance to cover rent and living expenses. The amount depends on whether you are studying in London or elsewhere, and is reviewed annually.
- A return economy flight from your home country, plus an arrival allowance, a departure allowance and a travel top-up.
- The cost of your visa for the United Kingdom.
- Up to 75 GBP (approximately 85 EUR) for a TB test, if required.
You will also take part in a networking programme and become part of a global community of over 60,000 Chevening alumni.
Who can apply
- Nationality: You are a national of one of the 140 or more countries and territories eligible for the Chevening Scholarship, which covers almost everywhere except the United Kingdom. You must not hold British nationality or dual British nationality. Exceptions are made for nationals of British Overseas Territories and holders of a BN(O) passport who are applying from Hong Kong.
- Where you live: You do not live in the United Kingdom at the time of applying.
- Degree: You must hold a bachelor’s degree that qualifies you for a master’s programme in the UK. You must have obtained this degree at least two years before the application deadline. Holding a master’s degree does not disqualify you from applying.
- Work experience: You have at least two years’ professional experience (approximately 2,800 hours) gained since completing your bachelor’s degree.
- University places: You are applying for three different eligible Master’s programmes in the United Kingdom and have received at least one unconditional offer by the specified deadline.
- Field of study: Any subject area. You choose the courses yourself.
- Return commitment: You undertake to return to your home country for at least two years once the scholarship has ended.
- Age: No age limit.
- Previous funding: You have not yet studied in the UK on a scholarship funded by the British Government.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the Chevening application system. The application deadline is 6 October at 11:00 (UTC). If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to an interview in English at a British Embassy or High Commission in your country.
