The Bergendorff Scholarship

You get funding for a two-month summer internship in a research group, done in the summer between your first and second year of the toxicology master's programme. The money lets you spend the summer on a hands-on research project in toxicology at Karolinska Institutet instead of only sitting in class. It can also cover other training activities you set up yourself. The scholarship comes from the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm and is paid from donations. Several students receive it each year, and holders present their projects at the annual Bergendorff seminar in November.

Who can apply

• Programme: You are enrolled in the global master's programme in toxicology (KI ToxMaster) at IMM, Karolinska Institutet. Only students on this programme can apply.
• Study stage: You have finished your first year, so you can do the internship in the summer before your second year.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. The programme is global and sets no nationality limit.
• Age: No age limit.

How to apply

Applications open in the spring. Students on the programme get the details internally, and the programme's teaching staff at IMM choose who is funded.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is tied to a single master's programme, so the pool of applicants is very small: only students on the KI toxicology master's can apply. Several students are chosen each year from that one group, which makes the odds far better than for an open scholarship. If you are on the programme and put forward a clear internship plan, your prospects are good.
