Chevening Scholarship

For a one-year Master’s programme at a UK university, you will receive a scholarship of full scholarship, funded by the UK government. It covers your full tuition fees and includes a monthly living allowance to help with accommodation and living costs. The amount depends on whether you are studying in London or elsewhere, and is reviewed each year. In addition, you will receive a return economy-class flight from your home country, the visa fee, an arrival allowance, a departure allowance, a travel allowance, and up to approximately 85 euros (75 GBP) for a TB test, if required. You will also become part of a network of more than 60,000 Chevening alumni (former scholarship holders) worldwide, with events and opportunities to engage with the British Foreign Office, partner organisations and high-profile speakers.

Who can apply

• Where you go: You are undertaking a one-year full-time Master’s degree in the UK. You are applying for three eligible degree programmes in the UK and must be able to provide evidence of an unconditional offer (a confirmed place on the programme with no further conditions) from at least one of these programmes by the specified deadline.
• Field of study: Any subject and any British university is an option.
• Nationality: You are a national of one of the 140+ countries or territories whose citizens are eligible for a Chevening scholarship. British nationals and those with dual British nationality are not eligible to apply, unless you are from a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) status from Hong Kong.
• Degree: You already hold a bachelor’s degree that qualifies you for a master’s programme in the UK, which you completed at least two years before the application deadline. Even if you already hold a master’s degree, you are not excluded from applying.
• Work experience: You must provide evidence of at least 2,800 hours of professional experience following your bachelor’s degree, which is equivalent to approximately two years’ full-time employment. Full-time, part-time and voluntary work, as well as work placements, are taken into account.
• Where you live: You are not living in the United Kingdom at the time of applying.
• Return commitment: You undertake to return to your home country for at least two years once the scholarship has ended.
• Age: There is no upper age limit.

How to apply

You must apply online via your country’s page on the Chevening website by 6 October. Applications will be checked for eligibility and assessed by independent panels. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview at a British Embassy or High Commission before the final results are announced.

The selection process places particular emphasis on clear leadership potential and substantial professional experience, not just academic grades. Applicants who can demonstrate that they have made a difference and who present a concrete plan for how they intend to contribute to their home country stand out in particular.
