John Fisher HPC Masters Scholarship

You get up to about EUR 18,500 (up to £16,000) towards your tuition for one academic year, taken straight off your fees. The University of Edinburgh and its supercomputing centre EPCC offer up to two of these awards. They aim to train specialists in high performance computing, meaning people who work with very fast, large-scale computers. Selection is based on your academic record.

Who can apply

• Programme: You are applying for one of two full-time, on-campus master's degrees at Edinburgh: MSc High Performance Computing, or MSc High Performance Computing with Data Science.
• New applicant: You are starting the degree, not already enrolled. The award is for students beginning in September 2026.
• Grades: You have, or expect, a UK first-class or 2:1 honours bachelor's degree, or the international equivalent.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities. There are two versions of the award, one for UK/EU students and one for international students.
• Motivation: You can explain why you want to study HPC, how the degree fits your career goals, and how the scholarship helps you reach them.

How to apply

First apply for admission to the master's programme. Then apply for the scholarship through the university's MyEd portal. The deadline for the September 2026 intake has already passed, and outcomes are announced by mid-March 2026. Funding for the 2027/28 year has not yet been confirmed.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly: only applicants to two specific Edinburgh HPC master's degrees who hold a strong bachelor's degree can compete, so the pool is small. With up to two awards on offer, well-matched applicants with clear grades and a focused reason for studying HPC have solid prospects.
