LLM European Law Scholarship (Edinburgh Law School)

What the LLM European Law Scholarship gives you

You get your full tuition fees paid for the one-year, full-time LLM in European Law at the University of Edinburgh in 2026-27. The award covers either the Home (UK) rate or the International/EU rate, depending on your fee status. For international students the LLM fee is around EUR 37,000 (about GBP 32,000), so the saving is substantial. Edinburgh Law School gives just one of these scholarships each year. The award covers tuition only, not living costs.

Who can apply

• Programme: You have applied for and been accepted onto the full-time LLM in European Law starting September 2026.
• First degree: You hold at least a UK 2:1 honours degree (or the international equivalent) in law, European studies or another social science subject.
• English: You meet the language requirement, for example IELTS 7.0 overall, with at least 7.0 in writing and 6.5 in the other parts.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, from any country.
• No previous master's: Applicants who have not studied at master's level before are preferred, but this is not a hard requirement.
• Offer accepted: When you apply for the scholarship, you already hold an offer from Edinburgh and have accepted it or intend to.

How to apply

First apply online for the LLM in European Law through the university. Once you have your offer, fill in the Edinburgh Law School scholarship application form and email it to the Law School by 1 May 2026. Selection is based on your grades and your personal statement, in which you explain what draws you to the programme and how it will help your career and community. You hear the outcome by the end of June 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one award is given each year, and it covers full fees at a well-known law school, so competition is real. Your grades and personal statement decide it, and applicants who have never done a master's before have an edge. If you fit that group and can write a convincing statement about why European law matters to you, you have a genuine shot.
