Generation Google Scholarship (Women in Computer Science)

What you get

You get 5,000 EUR per year for two years of your bachelor's degree, so up to 10,000 EUR in total. The money covers tuition and mandatory fees, books, supplies and equipment for your course. You cannot use it for rent or food. If your university charges no tuition, you can still apply for help with obligatory costs like books and materials. The scholarship comes from Google and is run by the Institute of International Education (IIE). It supports women and other under-represented groups in computer science.

Who can apply

• Study level: You are in your first or second year of a bachelor's degree. Master's students cannot apply.
• Where you study: You study at a university in Ireland, and you plan to stay there for at least the next two academic years.
• Field of study: You study computer science, computer engineering or a closely related technical subject.
• Grades: You have a strong academic record.
• Leadership: You can show leadership, for example activities where you took initiative or guided others.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. What counts is that you study in Ireland, not where you are from.
• Exclusion: Children of Google employees cannot apply.

How to apply

You apply online through the IIE portal. You upload your CV, transcripts and short essay answers, and you name two references (not family members) who each send a letter. Awards are decided on your leadership and academic background. Everyone is notified by email by mid-October.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly: women in the first two years of a computer science or related degree at an Irish university, judged on leadership as much as grades. That keeps the field small. In the 2025-2026 round, applications closed once 80 came in, so the pool is limited but places are few. If you clearly fit the field, can show real leadership and apply as soon as the round opens, your prospects are good.
