The Humanities Research Fund (University of Warwick)

You will receive financial support to present your research findings at a conference: up to about 690 EUR (£600) for a UK conference and up to about 920 EUR (£800) for a conference abroad, provided you give a presentation. The fund also supports other research activities within the Faculty of Arts, such as the launch of a new project, research costs and publication fees. For these purposes, the amount is determined on a project-by-project basis. The University’s Centre for Humanities Research manages the fund internally.

Who can apply

• Where you study or work: You are at the University of Warwick, in the Faculty of Humanities.
• Level: You are a member of academic staff, a Master’s student on a research programme or a PhD student.
• Field of study: You work in the field of the humanities and the arts.
• For conference funding: You are giving a presentation at the conference. You provide clear details about the event, explain how it is relevant to your work, and introduce the presentation itself, ideally with a summary.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the University of Warwick’s internal online portal, for which a university login is required. The application rounds take place in several stages, with the deadline for the first round falling on 31 October. Once a round has concluded, the remaining funds are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. A panel reviews new applications approximately every one to two weeks until the funds have been exhausted.

How realistic are your chances?

This is an internal fund open exclusively to staff and PhD students at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Warwick; therefore, only those already employed by the university may apply. If you meet these criteria and are giving a presentation, your chances are good, particularly if you submit a clear, well-reasoned application to attend the conference. As remaining funds are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until they are exhausted, it is advisable to apply early in the application cycle.
